Chris’ Story

“The way I managed to escape homelessness was all through my bad times I could close my eyes and see my sons face…”
I became homeless in January 2011 due to marriage breaking down due to my substance and alcohol abuse. I spent the majority this period of homelessness sofa surfing and staying with friends but soon became unmanageable due to my drug and alcohol abuse.
The way I managed to escape homelessness was all through my bad times I could close my eyes and see my sons face on this occasion I closed my eyes and couldn’t see him. So I took a serious overdose of drugs only to come round a few days later in hospital. Once I was deemed medically fit I got transferred to a mental health unit for detox and other issue. Through my time in hospital I was referred to a homelessness project and I was rehoused.
