Alister’s Story

“The one thing that got me out of being homeless was other peoples’ inspiration…”
I was living on and off the streets for around 3 or 4 years. I was born in Glasgow and I moved to London mid 70s. I stayed in bedsit while I was working but then the job came to an end. The first thing was I couldn’t afford rent, so I started rough sleeping in empty properties.
The one thing that got me out of being homeless was other peoples inspiration. I met with other people who had been homeless and had been in the same situation and that gave me hope. I could see that no matter how low I am there is always someone who has been there that I could look up to. So that was the start. I work with pathway because the group have all been there and done it, and they keep inspiring me.
“I wanted to capture that energy and interpret how he has turned his own life around.” Anonymous
